Boston Calling is an event that takes place every year in Boston, Massachusetts. For this assignment, we were tasked with redesigning two posters - once using hands on materials, and the other digitally. For the first one, I wanted to play around with the heavy letters. I liked how they stood when stacked on top of each other. One major challenge I had with the design of this was for the letters to read as letters and not numbers. I found that for the letters that typically utilized curves, finding design solutions was a bit more of a challenge when the curves were eliminated.
For the more hands on poster design, I painted the word “Boston” and brought it into Illustrator to image trace. I really enjoy this design because it is quite far outside of the work I typically create and I find that it really embodies the vibe of Boston Calling.
